Special Trips

Nature Calgary offers some field trips to more distant locations, with transportation and accommodation necessitating a cost to participants. For current dates and online payments, see below.

Annual Bus Trip:

This is a full day trip by bus to a natural history destination. In recent years we have visited Olds College Botanical Gardens, Dinosaur Provincial Park,  Red Deer Wetlands, Ellis Bird Farm and JJ Collett Natural Area, and the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre at Coaldale. The 2017 bus trip will be to the beautiful Waterton Lakes National Park!

Annual Waterton Weekend:

This trip is usually scheduled for the second weekend in July (Friday evening through Sunday) at the Canyon Church Camp during flower season in Waterton National Park, one of the most delightful times of year in Alberta. Participants organize outings among themselves, depending on their interests and abilities. Families are welcome.

    Annual Nature Calgary Bus Trip - Waterton Lakes

    The annual Nature Calgary bus trip will be on Saturday, June 24th  to Waterton Lakes National Park. Cost is $40.00 for members and $60.00 for non-members. Order tickets via Paypal (below), or by cheque. Please make cheques out to Nature Calgary and mail to Nature Calgary, P.O. Box 981, Station M, Calgary T2P 2K4.

    The bus leaves the Anderson LRT station at 7:30 am.  It will return by 7:30 pm. Meet in the parking lot just south of the pedestrian overpass.

    We will go to the lookout at Maskinonge Lake just inside Waterton Park gate to look for Sandhill Cranes and other waterfowl.  There is also a picnic ground close by where we can see warblers and other waterfowl on the Waterton river.  After lunch (participants will bring their own lunch) we will go to beautiful Cameron Lake to see the wildflowers. With luck Stellar Jays maybe seen and Varied Thrushes heard. We hope to stop in the town site of Waterton for about an hour before heading home.
