Leading a group of nature lovers on a walking tour across the width of the province may seem a daunting task.
But for 84-year-old Gus Yaki, it was a challenge he was eager to embrace.
“As this is Canada’s sesquicentennial year,” Yaki explained, “it seemed a good year to do something significant and raise funds for conservation.”
When it comes to celebrating the natural beauty and diversity of Canada in its 150th birthday year, there’s no shortage of areas to highlight in Alberta.
Yaki hoped that by leading this tour of amateur birders and botanists, it would not only result in a deeper understanding of Alberta. He also wanted to raise funds for a number of conservation-focused groups including the Alberta Wilderness Association, Bird Studies Canada and the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
