As a member of Nature Calgary you are aware of the pleasures and benefits of being in a natural environment.  An early introduction to the various aspects of nature can lead to a lifelong appreciation of nature.

The Shawnessy YMCA Day Camp is planning to have a day at Fish Creek Park for its children and counsellors.  Included in the day there will be nature and bird walks, and to assist, they have requested Nature Calgary volunteer participation.

The Day Camp consists of approximately 150 children ages 5 – 12, and 30 counsellors (age 16+). The day out will be on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 10am to 3pm.  The YMCA will organize a rotation schedule for smaller groups; i.e. bird watching, trail walks, games and a scavenger hunt.

The request is for six volunteers to lead bird walks, talk about wildlife in the area, the environment, tree types etc.  Given the age range of the children, general knowledge of these topics is all that is required.  Volunteers should be Nature Calgary members.

If you can assist with this day, please let me know as soon as possible.  I may be reached either by email (volunteers@naturecalgary.com) or by phone, 403-246-4213.

Please let me know of any questions you may have.  I have asked for some additional details from the Day Camp, such as which location within Fish Creek they will be using, and this information will be provided to those who have an interest as soon as it is available.

Cheers,
