Weed Lake Update (January 2007)
Work on the rehabilitation of the Wed lake Project is essentially 80% complete.
The licensing has been completed, and construction to prevent on-going spring flooding in the back portion of these acreages is ongoing. The ditching in the outlet to the east has been completed as has the outlet control equipment on the eastern side of the wetland. The plan at this point is to charge the wetland with water from

  1. spring run off
  2. the Bow Irrigation system through the north end inlet
  3. tertiary treated water from the Langdon water treatment facility

This relatively new plant is comparable to the city of Calgary treatment facilities. We expect that at normal operating conditions water levels will be a as high as three feet on an on-going basis. This year unnecessary berms will be reclaimed, fences will be removed and some seeding will be done. On an on-going basis Ducks Unlimited is responsible for monitoring the general operation of the project and water quality consultants from Mount Royal College will continue with their monitoring responsibilities. We expect signage to be placed around the wetland this summer.
It is suggested members who are interested in visiting the area, park cars at the reclaimed old home site north just off Glenmore Trail just west of the culvert.
I am continuing to work with DU and the Langdon Community to look at options for some educational facility at the reclaimed natural area. via
